Official release date November 5th, 2021
Tom Spiker and Maxfield Gast have collaborated to create this adventurous and genre-bending excursion. Spring Garden Station is world music meets electro acid jazz in an eerie pandemic ridden subway stop in Philly. Produced by Spiker, Gast lent his sense of melody/harmony to create a top line over this rhythmic and energetic foundation driven forward by Internationally renowned percussionist Pablo Batista, multi Grammy nominated drummer Anwar Marshall and Spiker himself. Bryan Cowan rounds things out by adding to the low-end woodwinds with his contrabass clarinet. Together, Spiker and Gast are prepared to take you on a journey you didn't even know you were signed up for. Buckle in and enjoy the ride!
Tom Spiker’s background is in jazz and improvisation, having studied jazz guitar performance at the University of Miami for 2.5 years before transferring to The New School where he graduated with a BFA. At the New School, Tom studied bass and guitar with Reggie Workman, Kermit Driscoll, Vic Juris and David Fiuczyinski (to name a few). Since then, he has toured a good portion of the world on guitar and bass (w/ the occasional dip into keyboards and percussion), performing a multitude of genres (jazz, hip hop, Neo-soul, Americana and Bollywood). Tom has performed with avant jazz musicians such as Marshall Allen, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, G. Calvin Weston, John Medeski, Billy Martin and Steven Bernstein. A brief stint in the RnB/Hip Hop world with Kelis, Steph Pockets, King Britt and members of the Roots. And a lifetime of various rock and experimental bands. Spiker’s home studio, Undercarriage, located in Philadelphia, has seen the likes of Meghan Trainor, Ellie Goulding, Tierra Whack, Bilal, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, G Love and the Rare mp3s crew. Outside of the studio and performances, Tom teaches audio engineering and production at The University of the Arts.
