Militia Hill presents a new collaboration between Grammy nominated producer and songwriter Jeremy Grenhart and long time colleague and friend Maxfield Gast. Together, “Bitter Sweet” features Grenhart’s soulful sense of melody and rhythm while Gast’s arrangement with the horn section truly compliments the story being told. In addition to Jeremy’s multi-instrumental skills on electric bass, piano and vocals, “Bitter Sweet” also features several talents from the Philadelphia music scene including Jake Morelli on guitar, Adam Stranburg on drums, and Gast himself on saxophones.

“Bitter Sweet” tells a story of past working relationships in regards to a younger man’s career in music- facing the challenges of differing opinions, sharing collective vision and adversity. As the story unfolds, the musical arrangement seems to undergo it’s own evolution. Featuring a primarily electric band up front, the track transitions into a more traditional acoustic band with improvisational solos and instrumental features. “Bitter Sweet” embraces a more traditional pop song form, but lends itself to the jazz influences Grenhart and Gast have both engrossed over the years.
